Purchase Death Disco Here

'Harrowing' is a word not often used to describe dance music. It can, however, quite easily be applied to PIL's disturbing dance masterpiece "Death Disco." This song was written in response to John Lydon's mother's last wish that a song be written for her. If she was half as twisted as this song, I can understand why Lydon came out the way he did.

I have never been too tolerant of post-punk, but when grafted to a dance beat, those sensibilities produce things like this, and, more importantly, New Order.

Purchase "Lost in Love"

I know that everyone is supposed to hate Air Supply, and I will admit that they have made a fair amount of irritating music. The thing that they never tell you about Air Supply is that buried under all of those grand ballads are a few keen Disco tracks (not to mention a good Power Pop song here and there). If you dig in the most unlikely of places, you will be rewarded.

"Just Another Woman" has some geat harmonies, wonderful analog synthesizers, and an overall cheesy, almost jingly (not jangly) feel to it. Sure, it's schlocky like everything else Air Supply did, but then again, if you didn't like schlock, you wouldn't be reading a Disco blog, now would you. So drop the pose and download the song, pal.

Purchase "From Here to Eternity"

So here is a new blog, created in honor of my radio show, "Too Hott to Handle," on 88.1 FM WMUC, which airs Tuesday nights/ Wednesday mornings at midnight. Put shortly, I play disco. Not many college radio DJ's play disco and not many blogs cater to disco, but I do. If you aren't in the College Park area, you can listen to my show online at www.wmucradio.com. Tune in to get all of your dance music needs.

Anyways, let's start things off with a classic of the genre. Here is my show's namesake from Giorgio Moroder's hugely influential album "From Here to Eternity." Enjoy.
